June 19, 2009, Newsletter Issue #162: Finding the Best Undergraduate Engineering Programs

Tip of the Week

Each year U.S. News & World Report publishes a ranking for the best undergraduate engineering programs. These rankings are typically based on peer surveys of Deans and senior faculty members who are asked to rate programs with which they are familiar. While these rankings are useful for students who are looking to receive a degree from a well known engineering program, it should not be the only resource used to select an engineering program.

Students should consider a wide variety of factors when selecting an engineering program. This may include criteria such as size of the school, available courses, location, cost and any other criteria of importance to the student. This will help to ensure the student not only receives a quality education but also is in an environment in which he feels comfortable.
