Is a health information technology degree right for me?”

Earning a Health Information Technology Degree

Earning a Health Information Technology degree has never been easier thanks in part to the availability of online technology degree programs. Online programs are convenient, flexible and allow students to pursue a degree while working. Most programs provide financial assistance to those who need it, so request an application for financial assistance when applying to a program.

A Health Information Technology degree allows the graduate to join one of the few medical related fields that does not require direct patient contact. According the Bureau of Labor Statistics, job growth is expected to be above average compared to other careers through 2014 which means graduates should have no difficulty finding employment upon graduation.

Once you graduate with a health information technology degree you can expect to earn approximately $25,000 annually. According to the BLS, the median annual earnings were $25,590 in 2004 with the lowest 10 percent earning less than $17,720 and the highest 10 percent earning more than $41,760. These positions usually have a standard 40 hour work week with benefit packages that include insurance, vacation and much more.

If you are interested in earning a Health Information Technology degree you will need to complete an application to the college of your choice. It is highly recommended that you speak to an academic advisor and admission counselor early in the application process so that you understand exactly what to expect. Be prepared to send high school or GED transcripts, references, the completed application with the appropriate application fee, and any other specific information requested.

Watch out for deadlines! Remember, everything must be included in your application package by certain dates to be admitted by a specific term. It's easy to loose track of everything so make a list and check it frequently!
